Ron "Cookie" Jackson in The Seattle Times

Last week, The Seattle Times ran an article on Ron Jackson, or as some of you may remember from the University of Washington's Huskies football team in the early 80's, "Cookie Jackson". We were honored when he asked us to do the head shots for the story. You can read the article here. Ron set 100-meter and 200-meter dash records in high school and at UW as a running back rushed a total of 1507 yards for the team. Ron went on to play in the NFL for the Washington Redskins for one pre-season.

Ron and his family lived in South Africa for 12 years developing church leadership and, more recently, building an orphanage. They are now living in the states, but travel back to Southern Africa three times a year to continue their efforts. Melissa and I are really excited about the new orphanage because next year we may be making a trip over to South Africa and provide our photography services to spread the word about the new orphanage!

Here's a couple photos of Ron Jackson:

Ember at "Northwest Photographer GTG"

As members of our favorite Wedding & Portrait online forum, we were privileged to attend a "Northwest Get Together" event at Gasworks Park in Seattle, WA. Basically, a bunch of photographers got together and hung out all day. The group provided models and makeup artists and we each got to photograph different models all day. Ember was one of the models we brought and she did a great job! While taking the second picture with Ember on the sidewalk, Melissa was in the road holding a light, screaming at Ross to hurry up before she got run over. Hehe, good times.

Harumi

Harumi asked us to take headshots for a poster advertising her upcoming piano performance in Kitakyusyu, Japan in November 2008. She'll be performing at the Wel Tobata Main Hall with violinist, Ulrike Danhofer. Harumi has performed around the world and currently lives in Ellensburg so we chose Central Washington University as the portrait session location. These portraits were taken in the CWU Music Department's Concert Hall and the Japanese Garden on campus. Check out Harumi's website here.

Kaleigh

Commentary by Melissa
Kaleigh came to us because she wanted to update her headshots. In the process, we took a lot of other cute pictures too. We know…using a mask for headshots is a little counter productive, but we were having too much fun! Kaleigh- don’t forget us when you’re a famous actress!

Erich Cross - Coldwell Banker

Commentary by Ross
Erich is a Realtor here in Ellensburg (visit his site here). We were able to do some fun photos downtown of Erich with his golden retriever, Roxy. There are a series of 3 photos we did that will be showing in the Daily Record newspaper.

This specific shot I had a lot of fun with... to get the angle I wanted I was laying flat on the sidewalk directly in front of the post office with my camera (and head) on the ground. Probably some of you reading this right now honked your horn at us once or twice as you drove by :)

Ember and Beau

We're working on a portfolio for Ember, but this month we decided to do some portraits with her horse Beau just outside of Ellensburg. Beau is a retired race horse (for 15 years) and has been a great friend to Ember, so we took it as our job to create some great memories.

(The portrait above is on display at Jerrol's Book & Supply in Ellensburg, WA.)

This was our first portrait session with a horse and I learned not to ask someone to sit directly in front of a horse because that horse might just kick... And that's exactly what happened. (Sorry Ember!) But here she is laughing about it just after it happened!

Don't they look like great friends?

Nicole

Nicole came to us with a few magazine ads that she wanted to copy, just for fun. We enjoyed the challenge to copy the makeup, hair, and clothing of the ads. Although she looks completely relaxed in these pictures, some of the posing was difficult to do. Fashion photography requires holding awkward, somewhat stiff positions. We think Nicole should model professionally! :)

Ember

We had the privilege of meeting Ember through an aspiring actor who had taken headshots at our studio. Ember is working on building her modeling portfolio and this was our first shoot towards that goal. Since it was cold and foggy outside, we decided to start with an in-studio session. The goal of this session was to get some quality upper body and headshot portraits. Ember has excellent intuition for photography. We’re looking forward to more sessions!
